1. About these terms

These Terms & Conditions apply to your use of the Metadata Cleaner website and Mac app, provided by Kudos IT PTY LTD. By using them, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app or website.

2. Availability and licensing

Metadata Cleaner requires macOS 14 or later. Availability, pricing and applicable licence terms are shown at the point of distribution. Where supplied through Apple, purchases, refunds and distribution are subject to Apple’s applicable terms and policies.

3. What the app does

Metadata Cleaner inspects and removes supported hidden metadata from images, PDFs, DOCX/XLSX/PPTX documents, video and audio files, including supported files within ZIP archives. Processing happens locally on your Mac. Export preferences may include original-format output, optional image and video conversion, resolution and compression adjustments.

4. Format and cleaning limits

Legacy DOC/XLS/PPT, macro-enabled Office files, protected or signed documents, and PDFs with forms or attachments are not supported. Standard PDF cleaning can change advanced document features. Optional deep PDF cleaning creates flattened image pages; selectable text and links are lost. Optional Office review cleanup removes comments and supported revision history while keeping current content. Turn it off for properties-only cleaning.

5. Your files and responsibility

Only process files you own or have permission to use. You retain ownership of your files and outputs. You are responsible for settings, file permissions and checking results. Images may be re-encoded; conversion and compression may change quality or file size. Default original-format GIF and WebP cleaning preserves animation frames and timing. Technical fields required by a format may remain or be newly generated.

6. Privacy is more than metadata

Cleaning does not redact visible content, remove identifying details inside embedded files, or change filenames and filesystem attributes. We do not guarantee that a cleaned file is anonymous or suitable for every disclosure. Save copies where appropriate. Verified replacement of originals is optional; keep backups before using it.

7. Acceptable use and intellectual property

Do not use the app, website or support service unlawfully, interfere with their operation or attempt unauthorised access. The app, website design and branding belong to Kudos IT PTY LTD or their respective rights holders. Your use does not transfer ownership of them.

8. Privacy

File processing is local to your Mac. Support messages submitted through this website are handled by the App I Want contact service. See our Privacy Policy.

9. Warranties and liability

To the extent permitted by law, the app and website are provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, removal of every identifying detail or suitability for every file or purpose. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for losses arising from use, including data loss, changed content or disclosure of information. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights, guarantees, remedies or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including under the Australian Consumer Law.

10. Changes and governing law

We may update the app, website and these terms. The date above identifies the latest version. These terms are governed by the laws of Australia, subject to mandatory rights and protections in your place of residence.
